It is the City's deepest secret with a warren of hidden streets that has remained frozen in time since the 17th Century. 6. The Edinburgh Dungeon near Waverley Station, Edinburgh - This is an 80 minute journey through 1000 years of Scotland's horrible history! Tours leave every 10 minutes and are guided by a full cast of actors. It is a fully themed experience and not for the faint hearted, but a lot of fun - click here for more information

7. Edinburgh Castle, Castle Hill, Edinburgh - Edinburgh Castle dominates Edinburgh from its great rock. Battles and Sieges were fought over it, royalty lived and died within its walls and generations have been inspired by it. 8. Edinburgh Zoo, Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh - Edinburgh Zoo is situated on Corstorphine Hill and cover over 80 acres of hillside parkland. There are 11 indoor animal housing areas and 6 sheltered observation areas ensuring that even on a rainy day, a trip to the Zoo is an enthralling experience. 10. The Royal Yacht Britannia, Ocean Terminal, Leith, Edinburgh - Discover what life was like on The Queen's floating royal residence. The Royal Yacht Britannia was home to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family for over 40 years and sailed over 1,000,000 miles around the world. 14. The Scottish Parliament - The Scottish Parliament welcomes visitors every day apart from Sunday. There is no need to book and admission is free for the public areas. However, if you would like a guided tour or attend debates, then advanced booking is required. More information here

15. Melrose Abbey - Open all year, Melrose Abbey is in the centre of Melrose. The Abbey is fascinating and once your visit is complete, Melrose itself is well worth a visit. Lots of quaint shops and great places to eat.
